HydrationPoint keeps your drinks, goal, badges and settings on your iPhone and Apple Watch. Nothing leaves them unless you choose one of the things below.
Back up and sync (optional). If you make a login, your email address (or your Sign in with Apple ID), a scrambled (hashed) password, and your drinks, quick-add drinks, badges, settings and "About you" answers (age range, sex, activity) are stored on our server in the UK so you can get them back on a new phone. We don't sell or share any of it, show ads or track you.
Daily quiz. When you finish the daily quiz, your phone sends a random player number (not linked to your name, email or login), your answers and how long you took, so we can show where you placed. No names are ever shown to anyone.
Hot day boost (optional). Your phone asks MET Norway (the Norwegian Meteorological Institute, api.met.no) for today's temperature using your rough location, rounded to about a kilometre. Your location is not sent to us.
Water points (optional). When you open Water points, your phone asks us for the free taps and fountains near you. It sends only a rough square of the map about 11 km across (a grid number, not your exact position) and we don't keep it or link it to you. Your phone then works out the nearest taps itself using your exact location, which never leaves it. We get the taps from OpenStreetMap.
Deleting. Settings › Back up and sync › Delete account removes your login and everything backed up straight away. Settings › Reset everything clears the phone.
Backups. Our server keeps a nightly backup copy for 14 days. Since 7 October 2026 an encrypted copy also goes each night to private Oracle Cloud storage in London (UK), where it is deleted automatically after 30 days. Only the developer can get to these backups, and they are used only to put things back after a problem. If you delete your account or anything backed up, it is removed from the app straight away, but it can stay in these backups until they expire, up to 30 days. It is never put back into the app, except to recover from a failure.
